“I came to New York City from the same place everyone else comes from to show the world my style. My family has lived in Queens for 15+ years. There are certain things that I carry with me to remind myself of my heritage, such as Food, Tea ♥, ever changing personality. The person who has most influenced my journey here is my younger self because she is so inspiring. Since being here, I have faced many obstacles: Mom, Dad, Their Dreams. After visiting this exhibit, I will be going to god knows where. In five years, I want to be able to fuse asian drawing with current accepted style. In ten years, I see myself as me and no one else.”

There are certain things that I carry with me to remind myself of my heritage, such as a handmade silver ring, wine, the reasons I am humble. After visiting this exhibit, I will be going to DUMBO. In five years, I want to be respected. In ten years, I see myself giving all of this back.”

The Black Book Club has posted an infographic of “Literary Hot Spots of the Harlem Renaissance.” The background image being used? That’s from the mural Aspects of Negro Life by Aaron Douglas—one of the pioneering designers featured in AIGA Design Journeys—which is located at the 135th Street Public Library (find it on the interactive map). Read more about Douglas here.
